19th July, 2021 – With six weeks to go until the PING Junior Solheim Cup 2021, seven players have been confirmed to be part of the European PING Junior Solheim Cup Team. The remaining five players will be announced by 26th July.

Team Europe will face the United States in the 11th PING Junior Solheim Cup, which will take place on 1st and 2nd September at Sylvania Country Club in Toledo, Ohio.

The seven players announced by Captain Annika Sörenstam are Denmark’s Amalie Leth-Nissen, France’s Constance Fouillet, Germany’s Paula Schulz-Hanßen, Spanish pair Andrea Revuelta and Cayetana Fernandez and Swedish duo Meja Örtengren and Nora Sundberg.

The qualifying system for this year’s PING Junior Solheim Cup was updated in January 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the significant impact it had on the safety and lives of everyone across the world.

With travel restrictions impacting participation in the qualifying process, the team has been selected based on a number of factors including performances at the original PING Junior Solheim Cup qualifying tournaments, performances at other national and international tournaments, rankings, input from national coaches and input from Captain Sörenstam.

Sörenstam, who played in the Solheim Cup eight times, said: “It has obviously been a strange couple of years with Covid, meaning many European National Teams have not been able to travel, so the girls haven’t had as many playing opportunities. Having said that, we are excited to announce seven members of our European PING Junior Solheim Cup team. So far, we have a young but very talented team and I look forward to working with them.”

Former LET member Nora Angehrn, who is coach for the Swiss Girls National Golf Team, will be the Vice-Captain to the European team.

The biennial PING Junior Solheim Cup, which was inaugurated in 2002, is designed to give junior golfers from both sides of the Atlantic the opportunity to gain international match play experience whilst at the same time, meeting and sharing experiences with the professional players in the Solheim Cup.

Many stars featured in the PING Junior Solheim Cup before excelling in the Solheim Cup. Carlota Ciganda, Azahara Muñoz and Caroline Masson triumphed as amateurs before lifting the Solheim Cup crystal trophy, while 10 members of the victorious 12-woman European side at Gleneagles in 2019 had previously played on a PING Junior Solheim Cup team.
