ANTICIPATION BUILDS IN ANDALUCÍA

The tournament will be played in Marbella, Málaga, organised by the Real Federación Española de Golf with the sponsorship of Turismo de Andalucía, Turismo Costa del Sol and Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Costa del Sol Occidental.

Aloha Golf Club was the final creation of designer Javier Arana before his death in 1975. A parkland style layout, the par 72 requires accuracy from the tee and a good approach to the green. Undulating terrain, colourful blossoming trees and lakes frame the spectacular views of the Sierra La Concha and the Mediterranean Sea.
Almost from its inception in 1975, Aloha Golf has been closely linked to the world of high level competition. In 1978, Spain hosted the Amateur Championship and International Championship. Meanwhile, in 1989, a mixed event, the Benson & Hedges Trophy, was played at Aloha Golf Club and featured on the Ladies European Tour schedule. Spanish pair Miguel Angel Jimenez and Xonia Wunsch were crowned as the champions.
In recent years, Aloha Golf Club has hosted the Open de Andalucia on the men’s European Tour three times. In 2007, Englishman Lee Westwood won after setting the course record with a 64. In 2008, Thomas Levet triumphed, while in 2012 it was fellow Frenchman Julien Quesne who emerged victorious after a final round 8-under 64 that equalled the course record.
With a field including Spanish Solheim Cup star and local player Azahara Muñoz – a three-time winner on the Ladies European Tour – and the leading LET Rookie Nuria Iturrios (above), who claimed the Lalla Meryem Cup in Morocco in March, the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España Femenino anticipation is building for the return of the ‘Spanish Open’ after a one year hiatus in 2015.
