GOLF COSTA ADEJE, VENUE OF THE TENERIFE SPANISH LADIES OPEN 2014
This will be the second time that the island of Tenerife hosts the celebration of a Spanish Ladies Open after the one at Golf Las Americas in 2012, which concluded with the first professional victory of the Australian Stacey Keating after overcoming an exciting tiebreaker playoff to German Caroline Masson.
The choice, on this occasion, of Golf Costa Adeje, a course of recognized prestige, renews the commitment to quality that emanates from Tenerife, one of the most important tourist destinations in Europe.
The Tenerife Spanish Ladies Open occupies the seventeenth place in the calendar of the 2014 Ladies European Tour and will be the only tournament this Circuit to be held this year in Spain.
Golf Costa Adeje, a venue of recognized prestige
Golf Costa Adeje debuts as a venue of a Spanish Ladies Open for the first time in its history, – although it hosted the men’s Open in 2003, besides the Tenerife Ladies Open in 2005, 2008 and 2009 – an emblematic tour from Tenerife, structured with the same number of pars 3, 4 and 5, that begins with a long par 5 of 510 meters.
Designed at the time by the renowed José Gancedo, more than a half million square meters of stone wall of ancient agricultural terraces were restored to offer spectacular views of the sea, La Gomera island, Playa de Las Américas and the Adeje mountains along its entire tour.
As usual, one hundred and twenty professional players, among which will be the most outstanding from the Old Continent, including Spanish as well as some amateurs, will fight for the title of the Tenerife Spanish Ladies Open during four days, although only the 60 top ranked at the end of the second tour will have the opportunity to continue in contention after the required cut-off.
A tournament historically characterized by the spectacular play
The spectacle has always characterized the celebration of all editions of the Spanish Ladies Open, resolved in many cases on the last hole.
In 2013, at the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid, the South African Lee-Anne Pace debuted in the task of placing her name on the coveted trophy pedestal of the Spanish Open, – filled, by the way, with awesome reputation players- a renowned prestige triumph which also earned her to snatch the first place at the European Ranking from the French Gwaldys Nocera.
This tournament features, regardless the sponsorship of the Canarian Tourism Board, Tenerife Tourism Board and Reale Seguros, with the support of the Spanish Golf Federation, Canarian Golf Federation, Spanish High Council for Sport and Ladies European Tour, a strong joint commitment for professional women’s golf as a showcase of the Canary tourism excellence.
In addition, the organization of the Tenerife Spanish Ladies Open 2014 is provided by Deporte & Business, a company with extensive experience in these affairs, supported by its presence in the previous twelve editions of this Spanish Open, in the three editions of the European Nations Cup and the organization of the Tenerife Ladies Open from 2009 to 2011.
